HOMESTEAD, Fla., (Nov.20, 2009) – David Starr and the HT Motorsports Racing Team finished the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season on a high note.  The team started 15th in the Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway but by lap one Starr was 10th.  He raced near the top 10 most of the event and went on to finish in the seventh spot.  This top 10 added to an already impressive statistic of top-10 finishes this season, making it 14 top-ten finishes or over half of the year finishing in the top 10.  As a result, Starr finished ninth in the NCWTS Championship Driver’s standings.

The No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra Race Recap

  • Starr qualified his Zachry Toyota Tundra in the 15th position with a lap time of 32.911 seconds at a speed of 164.079 mph.
  • At the start of the race Starr didn’t waste any time picking up spots.  By lap one, he was 10th.
  • Under green flag conditions on lap nine Starr’s spotter Joey Meier said, “I can tell you are really tight out there; we will start working on a different line to help you.”
  • The first caution came out on lap 31.  Crew Chief Jason Miller called for the track bar to be bottomed out to help the tight-from-the-center-off condition.  Then Meier told Starr, “If you back up the corner, you can make up more time.  It will help your entry a lot.”  Starr agreed.
  • The team remained on the track during the second caution.  Then the third caution came out on lap 57.  Starr said, “The truck is a lot better.  I can get in the corner now which helps me a lot.”  Miller called for gas only to save his last set of tires for the end of the race.  Other teams elected to pit for tires and Starr inherited the second position.
  • By lap 81 Starr was running in the 11th spot, he had been passed by those teams who took on fresh tires.
  • The race endured a long green flag run and Starr was forced to pit on lap 117 under green flag conditions for fuel.
  • Then the fourth caution came out on lap 130.  Starr was running in the 10th spot.   Now the team had a fresher set of tires left than most of the field.
  • Starr pitted on lap 131 for four fresh Goodyear Wranglers.  He stopped really close to the wall so the team had to maneuver around to get the jack underneath the race truck.  They managed to get Starr back on the race track in the 10th spot.
  • In the final laps under a green-white-checkered flag finish Starr picked up three spots to finish seventh.  This marks his 14th top-10 finish this year.

Kevin Harvick won the Ford 200. Matt Crafton, Colin Braun, Timothy Peters and Todd Bodine followed in the top five.
