No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra
WinStar World Casino 350
Texas Motor Speedway
JUSTIN, TX., (Nov. 6, 2009) – Most NASCAR drivers feel added pressure as they race in their home state, but not Texas native David Starr. This cowboy has a never give up attitude and it shows in his results every race he enters. This Friday in his home state of Texas at Texas Motor Speedway, Starr battled in the WinStar World Casino 350 with a race truck that was very loose getting off the corner, but his Zachry Racing Team kept working until their driver had the feel he needed. And when Starr got that feel, his horse came alive. Starr finished the race in the ninth spot, his 12th top-10 finish this year.
The No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra Race Recap
- Starr qualified his Zachry Toyota Tundra in the 16th position with a lap time of 30.625 seconds at a speed of 176.327 mph.
- Starr didn’t waste any time at the beginning of the race to move to the front. By lap 13, Starr was already 10th.
- On lap 17 the first caution came out. Starr said, “I feel like on exit the truck is rolling back on the right rear. It’s really loose off the corner.” Crew Chief Jason Miller called for fresh tires then fuel and adjustments to help his driver with the loose condition. The team made an adjustment to the track bar and Starr restarted in the 23rd spot due to the fact that most of the leaders did not take tires on the pit stop.
- By the second caution on lap 55, Starr was running in the 19th spot. Starr said the truck was still loose, so the team did gas only and made more track bar adjustments. Now the leaders who did not take tires before had to take tires, so Starr inherited the third position for the restart on lap 59.
- The third caution came out on lap 88. Starr had fallen back to the 14th position due to the loose condition. Starr said, “It feels like the wheel turns so good that when I turn it I dart all over the place.” Miller called for an aerodynamic adjustment by having the team remove tape off the front end nose and add more tape on the B-post spot.
- Then Starr restarted in the 16th position on lap 93. By lap 99 Starr said, “The truck is back.” Then on lap 109 Starr went three-wide to take over the ninth spot.
- By lap 138, with only nine laps left to go in the WinStar World Casino 350, Starr was listed as the third fastest race truck in the field.
- On the last lap, Starr said he felt like he had a tire going down but hammered on to finish the race in the ninth spot, his 12th top-10 finish this year.
Kyle Busch won the WinStar World Casino 350. Matt Crafton, Ron Hornaday, Todd Bodine and Colin Braun followed in the top five. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race next Friday Nov. 13th in Phoenix, Arizona.
