Kroger 200
Martinsville Speedway
MARTINSVILLE, VA., (Oct., 25, 2009) – Even though the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series field didn’t think they would get the Kroger 200 race in at Martinsville due to rain, the sun eventually came out and Terry Cook was determined to get the monkey off his back and finish in the top 10. After starting 14th, his goal came true when Cook crossed the finish line in the 10th spot, his eighth top-10 finish this season.
The No. 25 Cajun Industries/ HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra Race Recap
- Cook qualified his No. 25 Cajun Industries Toyota Tundra in the 14th spot with a lap time of 20.040 seconds at a speed of 94.491 mph.
- By the first caution on lap 32 Cook said he was starting to get tight through the center, a statement very typical of Martinsville’s short track racing.
- The team utilized the time early in the race to pit for fuel. Cook entered pit road in the 15th spot and the team filled up his gas tank with Sunoco fuel. Cook restarted the race on lap 38 in the 13th position.
- By lap 49 Cook had worked his way into the top 10. Then a few laps later the second caution came out. Cook said, “I have to slow my entry down into the corners because I am tight through the center. It is manageable but getting worse as we go on.” The rest of the field pitted at this time, and Cook stayed out. He inherited the fifth spot on lap 58.
- Under the ensuing laps Cook remained on the track during the cautions and held his own in the top 10, running seventh at the halfway mark.
- Then on lap 114 the fifth caution of the day came out. Cook discussed with Crew Chief Danny Rollins that he needed tires to run faster lap times and compete against the part of the field that had previously taken tires. So the team pitted, and Cook restarted with fresh Goodyear Wranglers in the 18th spot on lap 119.
- In the next laps Cook steadily worked his way through the field inching closer each time toward the top 10. Finally on lap 192 with only eight laps to go, Cook passed the 10 truck for the 10th spot. He remained in this very position for the final laps of the race.
- This marked Cook’s eighth top-10 finish this season.
Timothy Peters won the Kroger 200. Todd Bodine, Colin Braun, Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick followed in the top five. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race in Talladega, Alabama next weekend on Halloween.
