Kroger 200
Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, VA., (Oct.25, 2009) – After a three week hiatus from NASCAR Camping World Truck Series action, David Starr and his HT Motorsports Racing Team were ready and loaded for the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway.  Even though the rain delayed the event for over an hour, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the Zachry Racing Team.  David Starr pushed his truck as hard as it would go and managed to finish the event in the eighth place.  It was Starr’s ninth top-10 finish this year which moved him up one spot in the NCWTS points battle.
The No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra Race Recap

  • Starr qualified his Zachry Toyota Tundra in the 13th position with a lap time of 20.015 seconds at a speed of 94.609 mph.
  • By lap four Starr was already 10th but he didn’t stop there, by lap 30 he was seventh.
  • The first caution came out on lap 32 and Starr said his truck was good, but he was having a hard time with his brakes.  The team pitted on lap 34 and filled up Starr’s gas tank with Sunoco fuel.
  • Starr restarted in the seventh spot on lap 38.
  • Under the second caution on lap 52 Starr told Crew Chief Jason Miller that he was trying to preserve his brakes and wasn’t being too aggressive.  The team chose to stay out while others in front of them pitted and Starr inherited the second spot.
  • Starr did a great job in the ensuing laps to stay in the second position with his eye on leader Kurt Busch.
  • Then on lap 103 another competitor pushed Starr out of the way causing Starr to lose three spots to the fifth position.
  • Under the fifth caution on lap 114 Starr pitted for tires trying to get an edge on the field with fresh tires for the final laps.  He restarted in the 17th spot.
  • Starr did a great job in the remaining laps to stay out of trouble on the half-mile short track, even when a competitor had something break on a restart right in front of Starr.
  • By the seventh caution Starr was 14th; by the eighth he was 10th.  Then Starr steadily worked his way up two more spots to finish the race in the eighth position.

Timothy Peters won the Kroger 200.  Todd Bodine, Colin Braun, Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick followed in the top five.   The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race in Talladega, Alabama next weekend on Halloween.
