North Carolina Education Lottery 200
Lowes Motor Speedway

CONCORD, NC, (May 18, 2009) – David Starr exclaimed at one point in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Lowes Motor Speedway that, “I love my truck!”  This was music to the Zachry Racing Team’s ears as they performed their best pit stops all season and enabled Starr to gain spots, four positions in one time, on pit road.  The team managed to make their second-best finish all season when Starr crossed the finish line in the seventh spot on Friday night.
The No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra Race Recap

  • Starr qualified his Toyota Tundra before it was shortened due to rain however NASCAR was forced to cancel the remainder of qualifying and started the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams by points.  So Starr started in the 15th position.
  • Under the first caution on lap 25 Starr told Crew Chief Jason Miller, “I’m having trouble getting into the corners.  I’m loose in and tight off.”  The team made adjustments to the wedge and track bar to help his condition.  The Zachry Racing Team did a fantastic job and managed to pick up four spots on pit road.
  • Starr barely squeaked by the next caution when Mike Skinner jumped on his side down the frontstretch.  But Starr maneuvered around and managed to do so unscathed.
  • By lap 74 Starr cracked into the top 10.  Then just as the team was preparing to pit under green-flag conditions, the third caution came out on lap 87.  Starr was now in the fifth position and told Miller, “I love my truck! Don’t change a thing!”
  • The team pitted on lap 90, made no changes and Starr restarted in the fourth spot on lap 94.
  • Once again Starr used his veteran driving skills to scrape by another wreck unhurt when Todd Bodine wrecked in front of him on lap 96.
  • Then on lap 108 James Buescher was racing alongside Starr and spun sideways bringing out the fifth caution.  Starr managed to not miss a beat and held on to the fifth spot.
  • In the final laps Starr kept his Zachry Toyota Tundra in one piece, and brought it home in the seventh spot.  This marks his second top 10 finish this season.

“I’m just proud of everyone at HT Motorsports and Zachry,” Starr said after the race.  “The guys worked so hard this week to get a good truck here at Charlotte, and we were pretty decent tonight.  We had some good battles with our teammate, Terry Cook, so that was cool.  It was so much fun to run up front again and mix it up with those guys.  It was a solid top-10 finish for our team tonight, and we’ll refocus and look to get better the next time out.”

Ron Hornaday Jr., won the North Carolina Education Lottery 200. Kyle Busch, Matt Crafton, Ryan Newman and Terry Cook followed in the top five.
