Terry Cook
No. 25 HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra
Kroger 250
Martinsville Speedway
MARTINSVILLE, VA, (March 30, 2009) – HT Motorsports driver Terry Cook was going for the eighth position in the final green-white-checkered flag laps of the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway on Monday afternoon when he was sent into the wall in turn three after a fellow competitor bumped him. The wreck caused Cook to finish the event in the 16th position. But typical of short track racing, other competitors that Cook was battling in the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points’ battle, also had hard luck and Cook was able to move up to the sixth position in the point standings.
The No. 25 Harris Trucking Toyota Tundra Race Recap
- Cook qualified in the 13th position by posting a lap time of 20.231 seconds at a speed of 93.599 mph.
- The race got underway and Cook used his down time during the second caution to tell Crew Chief Danny Rollins that his truck was a tick tight. The duo made a plan to make adjustments to the track bar and wedge when they pitted.
- Under the fourth caution on lap 63 a few of the leaders came in for tires and gas. Cook stayed out and inherited the sixth position.
- During the ensuing laps Cook battled up to the fourth spot but the tight condition started to take over and he fell back to the sixth place. “It won’t turn,” Cook said.
- Then under the fifth caution on lap 91 Rollins called his driver in for fresh tires and fuel. The team made adjustments to the track bar and wedge on lap 95 to help his tight condition and Cook resumed the race on lap 99 in the 17th spot.
- Under the sixth caution on lap 113 Cook said, “On the short runs the truck is great, but the longer we go the more it fades away.” Rollins assured his driver by telling him his laps times were one-tenth quicker than the leaders.
- Cook held his own in the ensuing laps in the 13th to 15th positions. Then under the 10th caution on lap 186 Cook said, “It is like it parks in the center of the corner. It’s almost like I need tires. It is quickly fading.” Rollins called his driver in on lap 188 for fresh tires. Cook restarted in the 17th position on lap 191.
- Under the 11th caution of the day Cook said, “It’s like we have a ton of nose weight in this truck. It just won’t get up and going.” He was in the 13th position.
- By the 13th caution on lap 242 Cook had worked his way up to the 11th spot. Following the restart he maneuvered his way around several trucks and passed Brian Scott for the eighth position. Immediately after the pass Scott ran back into Cook sending him into Todd Bodine before the two settled against the wall in turn three. This brought out the white flag and the caution at the same time.
- Cook limped around the track for another lap bringing him wounded No. 25 HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra home in the 16th position.
Kevin Harvick won the Kroger 250. Ron Hornaday Jr., Mike Skinner, Johnny Benson and Rick Crawford followed in the top five.
